Z-Medical appoints chief commercial officer and US vice president of sales

Z-Medical has appointed René Rothacker as chief commercial officer and Jim Talbert as vice president of sales USA.

The company received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance to market the minimally invasive Z-Pedicle screw system in 2015, and established a US subsidiary later that year to support launch with logistic partners WebOps and GlobalMed Logistix. In 2016, the company entered into an agreement with InterMed Resources to distribute the minimally invasive Z-Pedicle screw to HealthTrust’s ~1,600 acute care facilities in the USA.

Rothacker is now responsible for leading the commercialisation of Z-Medical’s minimally invasive Z-Pedicle screw system including sales and product promotion.

His career has included over 15 years of experience in marketing and product management in the medical device industry with a focus in pharmaceutical packaging and spinal implants. Prior to joining the company, he was a consultant for Z-Medical and provided technical expertise and training in support of product development. Prior to this role he worked as product marketing manager at Joimax and as senior product manager at Paradigm Spine.

In his previous position as director international business development at Z-Medical he was responsible for setting up Z-Medical’s US operation, including some of the strategic partnerships.

In this position he worked with Talbert who was formally Z-Medical’s US national distributor.

The strategic partnership with InterMed Resources was initiated by Jim Talbert, who also has experience in training medical professionals in the proper application of surgical equipment and medical devices.
