The WaveWriter Alpha Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) System (Boston Scientific) has been named Best Overall Medical Device Solution at the fifth annual MedTech Breakthrough Awards.

Launched earlier this year, the WaveWriter Alpha SCS System is a unified portfolio of four MRI conditional, Bluetooth-enabled rechargeable and non-rechargeable implantable pulse generators.  The system features the proprietary Fast-Acting Sub-perception Therapy (FAST), which Boston Scientific say is designed to allow patients to experience profound paresthesia-free pain relief in just minutes.

The MedTech Breakthrough Awards aim to honour excellence and recognise the innovation, hard work and success in a range of health and medical technology categories, including robotics, clinical administration, telehealth, patient engagement, electronic health records, mHealth, medical devices, medical data and more. This year’s program attracted more than 3,850 nominations from over 17 different countries.

The WaveWriter Alpha SCS System is supported by Cognita Solutions – a suite of digital tools to address common challenges in pain management, including raising awareness about drug-free pain management options, helping patients find local physicians, and helping physicians sustain functional outcomes for patients over the long-term.

The system is indicated as an aid in the management of chronic intractable pain of the trunk and/or limbs including unilateral or bilateral pain associated with failed back surgery syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome types I and II, intractable low back pain and leg pain.

  1. What about pain in the neck, shoulder and arm caused by arthritic spurs on the spine? Can this also be helped by this? Everything I read seems to only mention low back and leg pain which I had surgery for years ago.

    • I am going to be doing a trial with the system for my neck. Hoping for relief after trying everything else possible including neck surgery.

  2. I had the Nevro SCS test trail. Day two got headache and day three chest pains. Day 7 took lead out and everything went away. Wondering if another SCS would be different.

  3. Getting replacement surgery for newest SCS from Boston Scientific in 2 weeks! I’m excited and looking forward to this new design and research of up to 80% less back pain. I now only get between 40-50%.
