Ulrich medical USA has announced the market entry of a vertebral body replacement device which is the company’s flagship technology in the US spine implant market.

The Solidity Vertebral Body Replacement (VBR) device recently received FDA clearance and the world’s first implantation of this titanium implant was performed in Palm Springs, California on 28 December, 2018 by neurosurgeon Blake Berman, section chief division of Neurosurgery, assistant professor of Neurosurgery, and medical director of the Spine Program at the Institute of Clinical Orthopedics and Neurosciences at Desert Regional Medical Center, Palm Springs, USA.

Used for the surgical reconstruction of defects of the spine, the Solidity implant consists of a main centre piece with 625 unique end cap configurations available in one optimised set. A wide range of implants can be used to match unique patient anatomy and restore height and sagittal balance for spinal correction.

The design of the Solidity VBR allows end caps to be attached in a full 360° orientation on a Solidity centre piece. This maximises the range of device access to support any surgical approach. In addition, the end caps can be replaced or exchanged after a construct has been assembled, allowing surgeons to revise a construct as much as necessary to fit patient anatomy.
