“Outcomes are important for patients. It is very important that we understand what happens to our patients when we carry out treatments, be they surgical interventions or conservative treatment. If we do not know that, we cannot adapt our treatments [as needed].
“There is also incredible pressure from national and international governments to provide data on what we are doing and a quality outcome base [on which they can make healthcare decisions]. The MedTech industry is also faced with increased regulation and outcome data is necessary so the long-term outcomes of putting implants into patients can be understood and so that the regulatory requirements are met,” Tim Pigott (Liverpool, UK) and incoming president of EUROSPINE 2018 tells Spinal News International.
