Second 3D printed vertebrae implantation procedure successful

A second patient has received 3D implanted vertebrae in a successful procedure at Zhejiang University School of Medicine, China.

The patient was a 21 year-old university student suffering from ossifying fibroma. The affected vertebrae, T10 and T11, were replaced with 3D printed titanium substitutes. Surgeons used CT scan data to create a virtual 3D model of the patient’s spine, allowing them to successfully design the replacement vertebrae used in the procedure.

Spine surgeons at the Peking University Third Hospital, China, made history in August when a 12 year-old boy received the first ever 3D printed vertebra implant.
