Mazor Robotics has announced that it has received approval to market its Renaissance system in Australia. LifeHealthcare will distribute and market the technology in the country on behalf of the company.

“We are very excited by the technology that Mazor’s Renaissance robot represents to the Australian and New Zealand Spine community,” said Daren McKennay, CEO of LifeHealthcare. “We are pleased to partner with Mazor, who has helped pioneer this technology and its application to spinal surgery. With the minimally invasive spine (MIS) market growing at 30% annually, we look forward to working closely with Mazor to bring the benefits of robotic MIS surgery to surgeons and patients across Australia and New Zealand.”

Ori Hadomi, CEO of Mazor Robotcs said: “Australia provides a natural extension of our expansion in the area, where we have relationships in six other countries. Being the largest independent spine device distributor in Australia, LifeHealthcare is recognised as a leading provider of innovative products to the spine medical community. We look forward to working with our partner to bring the Renaissance technology to the patients of Australia.”

A company press release reported that Renaissance is transforming spinal surgery from freehand operations to highly-accurate, state-of-the-art procedures, with less radiation—even for minimally invasive surgery, scoliosis, and other complex spinal deformity cases. It is the only robotic technology for spinal surgery available in the marketplace.
