K2M, a spinal device company, has announced the introduction of the MESA small stature spinal system, a Ø4.5 mm line extension of the company’s revolutionary low profile, zero torque family of products

According to a company press release, the MESA small stature is a significant advancement in the complex spine market for K2M, marking the company’s first pedicle screw available for small stature patients.

The top-loading system features Zero-Torque Technology, applying zero torsional loads, or twisting forces, to the spine when locking the screw.  With a new enhanced dual lead thread and light ergonomic instrumentation, it is poised to address the most difficult correction manoeuvers.

Behrooz Akbarnia, medical director at the San Diego Center for Spinal Disorders, said: “Small stature patients with spinal deformities are among the most complex cases. They need versatile, yet low profile, implants to address their complex deformities and MESA Small Stature is ideal for them.”

Eric Major, K2M’s President and CEO, said: “We are excited to bring to market a 4.5 mm pedicle screw system that provides surgeons with the lowest profile alternative for treating small stature patients,” stated  “MESA Small Stature reflects K2M’s continued commitment to developing next generation products and is a critical component to expanding our innovative complex spine portfolio.”
