K2M logoK2M has announced the global launch of the Everest Minimally Invasive (MI) XTower instrumentation—an enhancement to the Everest MI XT spinal system. The announcement took place at the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Annual Forum (SMISS; 14–16 September, Las Vegas, USA).

K2M launched the Everest MI XT system in 2016. The addition of the XTower expands the Everest MI platform. The system is intended to treat complex deformities with the goal of achieving 3D spinal balance.

The new instrumentation encompasses the entire tab-to-screw assembly, providing rigid reinforcement of the Everest MI XT screw tabs. Streamlined instrumentation allows surgeons to use the XTower throughout the entirety of the procedure. A Support Tower Reducer is designed to provide 35mm of reduction where necessary.

XTower offers interoperative customisation

“The addition of the [instrumentation] to the Everest MI XT spinal system provides surgeons with intraoperative customisation of screw extension rigidity based on the intended clinical application,” says Ashok Biyani, an orthopaedic surgeon at Toledo Orthopedic Surgeons in Toledo, USA. “The increased screw extension strength provided by the XTower allows surgeons to treat a full spectrum of pathologies utilising one system.”

Michael Selby, an orthopaedic surgeon at the Adelaide Spine Clinic in Adelaide, Australia, adds, “I regularly treat complex deformity, tumour, and trauma patients in my practice. The [device] provides the ability to customise the power of the reduction to perform complex procedures utilising minimally invasive techniques.”
