Hensler Surgical Products has announced that it will display and demonstrate its Bone Press device at the annual meeting of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS; 27 April–1 May, New Orleans, USA).

According to a company press release, the Bone Press is a patent-pending bone press innovation that maximises the separation of blood from autologous bone during surgical bone fusion procedure. It is available on the US market as well as selected countries.

Device inventor, Sean Hensler (a neurosurgical physician assistant) developed the device because he recognised the need for an improved method to collect and separate autologous bone after working alongside company co-founder Thomas Melin (a neurosurgeon). He said: “I watched precious bone get trapped within clotted blood, rendering it unusable, as well as bone suctioned away without even a second thought, on nearly every case.  Dr Melin had always tried to capture the bone within this mix, but with rudimentary methods. I knew something had to be done.”
