EOS imaging, a provider of imaging and data devices and software, has been chosen as this year’s winner of the Galien Foundation’s Prix Galien award in the medical device category. The Prix Galien recognises scientific innovation that improves patients’ health.

The Paris, France-based EOS imaging was awarded for its EOS device, an imaging platform designed specifically for utilisation in osteoarticular and orthopaedic settings, and its associated online software solutions.

“We are proud to see EOS becoming a standard of care as our installed base continues to grow worldwide,” says Marie Meynadier, CEO of EOS imaging. “[We] are honoured that the Galien Foundation recognizes its contribution towards patient safety and improved orthopaedic care.”

EOS imaging was awarded the medical device prize “in recognition of its EOS system for 2D/3D low dose imaging and associated EOSapps suite of online 3D surgical planning solutions for spine, hip and knee surgeries,” says the company, which as of 2016 had 43 employees dedicated to research and development.

The Prix Galien is awarded to companies that have demonstrated excellence in the field of medicine, particular the future of medicine. The Galien Foundation says the award “is … considered as the industry’s equivalent of the Nobel prize and the highest accolade for pharmaceutical research and development.”

Meynadier adds, “We designed the EOS system specifically to address unmet needs in orthopaedic imaging—providing high quality, full-body 2D and 3D images with less radiation exposure, as well as precise and complete patient data. Subsequently, we built on this foundation to offer EOS-based online 3D surgical simulation, planning and control software solutions to help surgeons improve patient outcomes.”

The Prix Galien is presented yearly in six categories: medical devices, drugs, research, electronic health, patient support, and dermatology.

EOS is now available in 51 countries, says EOS imaging. These include Israel (as of April 2017), China (also April 2017), France (the fiftieth system was installed in the country in May 2017), Belgium (March 2015), and Vietnam (May 2014).
