Augmented reality (AR) surgical navigation firm, Augmedics, recently announced the appointment of Nadav Tomer as an independent director to the company’s board of directors.
Tomer is described as an experienced medical device executive with 23 years’ global experience who retired from Johnson & Johnson in January, where he most recently served as global president, spine, for DePuy Synthes Companies.
Tomer’s appointment follows the addition of medtech veteran Kevin Hykes as Augmedics’ president & CEO in January, with the company focusing on the successful commercialisation of its AR-driven xvision system.
“Nadav’s experience at the helm of one of the most comprehensive spine portfolios in the world is an invaluable addition to our board,” said Hykes. “We are excited to leverage his expertise to continue to build on our position as the market-leading AR surgical guidance system for spinal procedures. I am thrilled to welcome him to the team.”
Tomer himself commented: “xvision’s ability to enable surgeons to visualise patients’ 3D spinal anatomy without looking away from the surgical field is unique and highly differentiated in the market. I am excited to work with Kevin and the team to realise the potential of the xvision platform to simplify and improve the surgical experience for spine surgeons everywhere.”
Augmedics also announced the appointment of Reed Krider as chief marketing officer. Krider brings 17 years’ experience at Medtronic in a variety of marketing and sales leadership roles, including three years as vice president of strategic marketing and six years as regional vice president of sales in the Restorative Therapies Group, which includes spine, navigation, imaging and robotics, and neurosurgery.
“We are truly excited about the addition of Nadav and Reed, particularly given their experience as successful leaders within leading spine franchises,” said Augmedics’ chairman Rick Anderson. “This is an incredible opportunity to utilise deep expertise in our home markets as we continue to build the leading augmented reality platform in healthcare.”
